THE latest annual Activate initiative for Dorset got off to a great start with BOO, which had a decidedly ‘vive le difference’ flavour to it as around a dozen French acrobats put on an evening show that combined brilliant artistry with emotionally charged activities performed upon a huge bamboo structure that resembled an old sailing ship.

Dressed in formal attire – the women wore long evening dresses – the acrobats went through the whole gamut of flying trapeze stunts in the UK premiere production of an outdoor event that attracted several thousand enthusiasts for a performance accompanied by live music that ranged from rock to opera.

With atmospheric lighting and music, the highly skilled artists brought a whole new dimension to their circus acts, developing their individual characters in a dramatic production that went far beyond mere acrobatics, not to mention the added attraction of a pretty young trapeze artist performing in skimpy red undies complete with suspender belt and red stockings.

The French artists who comprise CirkVost have decisively set the standard for the other free events at various venues around the county during September ranging from circus and music to drama and exploration of the landscape.

You can enjoy more free Inside Out festival shows over the next few weeks at outdoor venues at Bournemouth and Little Bredy, definitely a treat not to be missed for young and old alike.
