A FOLK club flush with success has a special treat for Thanksgiving night.

The Sunray Folk Club at Broadmayne Village Hall will welcome American singer songwriter Brooks Williams for a gig on Thursday, November 27.

Brooks is making a return to the club and will be joined by folk singer Hannah Sanders.

He is ranked as one of the top 100 acoustic guitarists in the world and is currently touring America.

Brooks is well known internationally for his fine performances and it is said ‘he walks the line between blues and Americana’... plus a bit of jazz and folk thrown in.

Coincidently, among other great artistes, Brooks has toured as a duo with Boo Hewerdine, who is returning to the club in June 2015.

Boo has written songs for Eddi Reader, KD Lang and Chris Driver and his enigmatic performances are always a treasure.

In December songwriter Gerry Colvin will be welcomed to the club and its annual seasonal Mumming Play will be performed.

Since opening in 2007, the club has been flying the flag for folk in West Dorset.

It is held on the fourth Thursday of every month.

It has hosted a sell-out performance of Martin Carthy, local performer Tim Laycock and international songwriter Boo Hewerdine.

Complimentary hot food is served in the intervals and there are annual seasonal mumming plays.

Bob Kirkpatrick, of the club, said: “We’ve built up a reputation for good quality evening of music and entertainment.

“The folk club is well known across the country, not only for the quality of its music but for its hospitality.

“We also take pride in offering complimentary hot food during the interval and sometimes some cake. It has now become a time to socialise and chat to the guest performers.

“And sometimes it can still surprise us. In October we were entertained by James Hickman and Dan Cassidy (brother of the late Eva). Not only was it a remarkable evening, we saw our first standing ovation.”

Admission for the Brooks Williams and Hannah Sanders gig is £7. The performance starts at 8pm and the doors open at 7.30pm.

On December 18 Gerry Colvin and Bob Kirkpatrick will be performing. The performance starts at 8pm and the doors open at 7.30pm.

Acts booked in for next year include Paul Downes, Jez Lowe, Bob Fox and Boo Hewerdine.
