Total Brass at Weymouth Bay Methodist Church
IN this thoroughly enjoyable concert, Total Brass, a young prize-winning brass quintet, showed off the potential of their instruments.
Robert Smith and Jason Lewis, trumpets, Ross Learmouth, trombone, Elise Campbell, horn and Matthew Blunt, tuba, complement each other perfectly and produce a lovely full sound.
It was great to see their enthusiasm and enjoyment in performing.
Total Brass glided into their programme with the deep and low brass sound of a 16th century dance, La Mourisque, following this with the contrast of a contemporary piece, Avidity, by prize-winning composer Timothy Wilson.
No brass concert seems complete without Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, which started the second half and got the audience’s full attention; they didn’t want to miss a note from these musicians.
The next concert is on Sunday, November 23 at Weymouth Bay Methodist Church.
