Magic returns to Lakeside shows in Dorchester

ORGANISERS claim that music-lovers and party people are turning to lakeside concerts to beat the recession blues in Dorchester this summer.

Sue Cull, one of the new owners of the All New Lakeside Magic festival, says four nights of music in the grounds of Kingston Maurward are set to raise the spirits of people affected by the economic downturn.

The tradition of lakeside concerts had been established by Court Productions, which hit the financial buffers last year after leaving some performers unpaid.

The concerts are being presented this year by a new company headed by organisers Mrs Cull and photographer Alan McNamee with two other investors.

Mrs Cull said: “We’ve already sold more than 1,000 tickets for one night alone. It’s as if people are looking for something they can really enjoy and afford so they can get away from all the news of recession.

“And we’ve looked back at previous years and found that cold winters are followed by good sunny summers – so that’s what we’re expecting this year.

“We’re very positive about 2009. We’re going to create a party atmosphere and a feeling of celebration.”

The concerts are being held at the lakeside setting at Kingston Maurward in July with each one ending in a fireworks display.

The four nights of tribute concerts start on July 9 with Madness tribute One Step Behind, followed by Bon Giovi, the Bryan Adams Experience, Abba 2 and round off with The ELO Experience on July 12.

With the prevous promoters catching a cold, why not start a bit smaller and just do a weekend rather than trying to fill 4 nights of tribute bands at prices that wouldn't be out of place for real acts.
I will be waiting for the stories of poor sales and cancelled concerts blamed on the weather.

Im so glad that Lakeside Magic is now back on the music calender! it would have been a shame not to have this major event! It is true that it needed new idea's and put on what the people want, In this time of dome and gloom, this story has cheered me up! about time we saw some good news in the papers!I and my family cant wait Lakeside Magic! roll on the Summer!

It is great news to hear that Lakeside Magic has been saved, I dont understand the comments made by PortlandWilliam, surely a concert with a big name would cost far more than the £25.00 per head! more like £80.00 per Head!if not more. One thing i have noticed about the line up for this year, is the lack of proms! (thank god!) I wish the owners of this company all the very best! i just hope they can manage it better than in the past, especially in current climate. Good luck to Lakeside Magic 2009 and beyond

The ELO experience are playing BIC for £15-17 a head
Tribute bands are £12-15 at The Brook in Southampton.
10cc under £25 at the BIC
Granted some big names (Simply Red, Kenny Rogers, Chris De Burgh) will rip you off but only to the tune of ~£40-45 and, although not my cup of tea, would be better value than a tribute act for £25
Wishbone Ash for £17 at the Brook - now you're talking!!!

Fab news, bring it on!

Kingston Maurward is a fantastic location so it's bound to be a bit more expensive.

Also you can take your own drink and food which saves you money compared to other venues.

Now, Madness or ELO, that is the question ...

Calm down Madeleine - the bands aren't real, they're just actors
