YOUNG musicians are in for a treat as Bridport Arts centre launches two new courses this autumn.

From September 17, parents and toddlers up to the age of five are invited to Colourstrings - Music for Kindergarten Classes.

In these music sessions, parents and children explore together the different musical concepts of rhythm, pitch and melody through play using movement and the senses.

Activities include songs, rhymes, games, moving to music and playing tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments.

Two sessions are available. From 10am to 10.45 for babies and toddlers of up to 18 months and from 11 to 11.45am for 18 months of age to preschool.

The classes are led by qualified Colourstrings teacher Rebecca Murphy and cost £4.50 per session. A maximum of 12 children (with a parent or carer) can attend each one. To book, please contact Rebecca on 01305 812 478.

Also starting on September 17 is a weekly course for 15 to 19-year-olds with an interest in lyrics and music.

Led by Magic Drum's Glyn Bush in association with music collective, B Sharp, the Lyric Writing and Song Creation course will help young songwriters to find their voice and vision through writing original lyrics and setting them to music.

The course runs from 6.30 to 9pm in the BAC cafe and costs £5 per session. To book a place, call 01308 424 204. A maximum of 12 places is available For more visit the arts centre website at bridport-arts.com
