Beverley Callard appears to have hinted that Coronation Street stars are not allowed to take part in BBC reality show Strictly Come Dancing.
The Corrie regular, who has appeared on the ITV soap as Liz McDonald for years, revealed all while replying to a fan on Twitter.
The 59-year-old actress originally wrote: “#Strictly I absolutely love Strictly!!!!!!! X”
She was then asked by a follower if she would like to take part in the dancing contest, but she replied: “Oh I’d love to. We’re not allowed. X.”
Beverley did not specify who the “we” in this instance referred to, but a Corrie source told The Daily Star that the show’s bosses do not want its cast members to appear on Strictly.
The source said: “It’s a no-brainer for us.
“Why would we allow cast members time off to go to film a show for a rival channel?”
Former Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan was allegedly supposed to appear on the celebrity series several years ago, and the source added that she was not able to appear because ITV “wouldn’t release her from her contract”.
The insider added: “That goes for everyone else in the cast – but we are more open when it comes to ITV shows.”
A Coronation Street spokesman has said: “Our cast do appear on BBC shows but where possible we give precedence to ITV programmes.”
