TONIGHT’S gig could not have got off to a better start than the one supplied by Sam Brooks.

Back for a second tour supporting Newton he has developed into a talent worthy of your attention.

If there is any justice he will be back in town headlining his own dates in the not too distant future.

Now on to the main act.

Anyone who knows me realises that I like a lot of variety in the music that I listen to and the good thing about tonight’s Newton Faulkner gig was that you got just that all wrapped up in one package.

If you wanted straight up Newton there was plenty of that but if you fancied a bit of Justin Timberlake then that was fine too, he has also been known to throw a bit of Queen in there for good measure.

All of this is possible because Mr Faulkner is a rare combination of a huge amount of musical talent, a sense of fun and a willingness to put the two together and see what happens.

And tonight even he seemed pleasantly surprised at how well some of it turned out.

Backed on occasion be other musicians it is his distinctive voice and guitar work that stands out, draws the crowd in and keeps them captivated for the whole night.

This is the fourth time I have seen Newton Faulkner and whilst you are guaranteed the favourites there have always been surprises as well.

And that combination is what will see me, along with many others, come back again and again.
