THIS review is probably one of the hardest I've ever had to write, not because it's hard to find positive things to say - quite the opposite - but because music has the power to transport us back in time and produce such a range of emotions that can render us speechless.

Don Williams did that for me, taking me back to my childhood and bringing thoughts of my late grandfather (also a fan) to the forefront of my mind.

Don walked on stage to rapturous applause from an auditorium full of faithful fans of all ages and instantly proved he still has the ability to captivate an audience even at the age of 75.

His gravelly voice is immediately recognisable to life-long fans and those of us who grew up hearing it from the crackling LPs played by our parents and grandparents.

There were many songs that had his fans dancing and clapping along as well as emotional songs such as 'Till the Rivers All Run Dry' and 'Some Broken Hearts Never Mend', which both brought tears to my eyes.

Of course there were the sing-a-long tunes all his fans know by heart; 'I Believe in You' and the fan favourite; 'You're My Best Friend'.

Country & Western as a genre is an acquired taste and some believe it is long dead, but Don Williams' continuing popularity and the standing ovation he received as he left the stage proves otherwise.

His performance was pure and flawless. I look forward to his next Bournemouth show.
