This is David Gray's second visit to Bournemouth in a little over a month. The first time round he played a few songs as part of the Wave 105 gig and in my opinion was easily the best artist there (and there were a fair few quality acts). This time he is back on his own and we get the whole evening to listen to this talented man.

With a new album Mutineers out we were always going to hear a mixture of new songs and more familiar older tracks. True to expectations he started the set with "Birds of the High Arctic' from Mutineers followed by the title track and 'Beautiful Agony'.

It’s not always easy going to a gig where the band play a lot of new material that a good percentage of the crowd have not heard before but all of these tracks were really well received which was a good sign for the rest of the night.

The first 45 minutes was a pretty chilled out affair. He did get to the hits with Sail Away but to be perfectly honest the whole night was pretty much on a par with too many stand out songs to pick out a particular high point.

This was definitely a gig for people who love listening to well-crafted songs delivered by a quality singer songwriter at the top of his game, and David Gray is definitely that.

His band was excellent and a mention should go to whoever designed the lighting as it complemented the music and mood of the show perfectly.

All in all a great night of quality entertainment at a sold out venue, and you can’t ask for more than that.
