MURDER PLAY West Stafford Village Hall EVERONE loves a good thriller, but in Brian Burton’s short mystery drama, the main characters soon find that murder is no joke.

Dorchester-based Somerleigh Players tackle a story that begins in true Agatha Christie style with a body in the sitting room but quickly develops into something a whole lot more sinister.

Kevin Morris and Imogen Clarke are excellent as guests of a dinner party from hell when they awaken from their drunken stupor the next morning only to discover a body in the room, not the ideal way to recover from a hangover.

But when the hostess of the party makes a shocking announcement of her own, things get even worse as Sally Little brings to life her role as a wronged wife.

The plot throws up even more surprises in this thriller with a twist that few could have predicted in a murder mystery that leads the audience into what seems like an open and shut case but which takes an unexpected and exciting turn.

Under the direction of Mel Hooley and with an invaluable contribution from David Lucas, the production provides an entertaining and undemanding evening in true murder mystery style, nicely augmented with complimentary snacks before the performance and a cheese platter supper afterwards to round off a sociable and stimulating time for all.

The production continues at Dorchester Arts Centre today and tomorrow.
