THAT'S how you do rock and roll.

It was a line said by Luke, the frontman of one of the night's music acts, The Struts, and it set the scene for an unforgettable evening of entertainment on the sands of Boscombe Beach.

The four boys who make up the band, which featured at the Isle of Wight Festival earlier this year amongst others, are loud, brash and heaps of fun as they bounded around the stage.

Everybody Wants, the name of their album which came out in July, seems to sum up the attitude felt by the crowd at Wave 105's Night at the Piers event.

Between them, they got gig-goers moving, after taking to the stage following performances from acoustic singer-song writer, Jack Savoretti, and Nell Bryden.

Nell, who hails from the US, had a beauty and power to her voice which makes the crowd stand-up and take notice, and her presence commands attention.

Popstar, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, was a host of fun when she sprung onto the stage in a bright red dress, which was later changed onstage under a gold curtain, to a little black dress.

She said that she had arrived from Helsinki just hours before touching down in Bournemouth and yet still she appeared to have copious amounts of energy to bounce along to tracks including Murder on the Dance Floor and a fantastic version of Modjo's Lady (Hear Me Tonight).

Last but not least, the headliner, Tony Hadley, brought some old school tunes for the mums and dads in the crowd, including Gold, True and his own incredible take on Dakota by Stereophonics.

Mr Hadley is a real showman, offering a big swing band to back him during his performance on stage. He has visited Bournemouth before, after starring at the BIC last year, also for Wave 105, and really knows how to win audience members on-side.

It was all set against a backdrop of majestic aircraft offering stunts along the evening starry skyline and a fireworks ending over Bournemouth Pier, creating a memorable night out for families.
