THE Drifters have been entertaining crowds around the world for more than 60 years now and when you have been going for that long it would be a near miracle if any of the original line up took to the stage tonight.

In fact with more than 60 different members of the band coming and going in that time you could even be cynical and ask if we actually saw The Drifters.

That aside, no one in the Pavilion left having not had a great time and heard a group of immensely talented guys keeping the songs that we love alive and vibrant.

If I were to try and list the hits they played it would fill the page, but be assured they played them and had the audience singing and clapping along to every one.

The show was split into two parts, the first of which started with some of the older, better-known, hits and then covering songs from their entire catalogue and some covers added for good measure.

The second half started with a medley of James Bond themes, which seemed a strange choice, but worked well.

The show then highlighted the new songs, which fitted in well and proved that each of these guys is a great talent in their own right.

The stand out track from here was Long Hot Summer, which had the crowd on their feet and most of them stayed there for the rest of the night.

As I left I overheard someone say that The Drifters are a bit like Triggers Broom in that they may have had a few changes over the years but they still do an excellent job and deliver a great nights entertainment.

What better way to spend a Saturday night.
