IT might sound insane, but Ruby Wax’s latest tour is a cross between a stand-up comedy show, a university lecture on brain science and a mental health group therapy session.

But the really crazy thing is that it works.

Some of the topics she covers are a bit random perhaps, but overall it works because of Ruby’s trademark wit and honesty.

She recently gained a masters degree in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy at Oxford University and the show is based on her critically acclaimed book Sane New World which helps us understand why we sometimes sabotage our sanity with our own thoughts.

Many members of the audience clearly recognised some part of themselves.

During the Q&A session in the second half it was evident that many were there because they had suffered mental health issues themselves and were advocates of the Mindfulness therapy.

But even if you have never had depression, her show is a real tonic and would probably do more to combat the stigma of mental health issues than many government campaigns.

The fact she got a standing ovation at the end just goes to prove it.
