Tony Hadley was at the Pavilion on Wednesday night paying his second visit to Bournemouth in a couple of months.

Acting as his own support he came on early and played a set consisting of a mix of his favorite songs and new material from his forthcoming album.

The Killers put in an appearance and the set ended with an excellent version of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Supported by a band, backing singers and a full orchestra the sound was excellent throughout the night.

The second half was dedicated to the songs of Spandau Ballet and he hit the ground running by opening with To Cut A Long Story Short.

People were immediatly up out of their seats and dancing down the sides of the venue. Although the arrangements stayed pretty close to the original band versions the orchestra definitely added an extra edge to the songs filling them out and give an extra bit of quality.

Running through the hits he managed to keep his clothes on during Muscle Bound to the disappointment of 90% of the audience and the relief of the other 10. In a set of great songs the stand out was definitely Through The Barricades.

The years may have passed but they have certainly been good to the man. The style has changed from the baggy shirts and trousers of the 80's but he still looks good in a suit and the voice is as strong and distinctive as ever.

Despite being an old Mod from the time The New Romantics ruled the airwaves it was really good to hear these songs once more and appreciate just how good they are. In fact I wouldn't mind going again so it must have been an outstanding night.
