COLLECTING money to help provide safe water to impoverished people worldwide is a serious subject but this fundraising concert by local singers and musicians proved to be bucketfuls of fun along with the meaningful message of dep-rivation.

The Sing for Water singers comprising mainly women and a few men who normally perform with the Quangle Wangle group, gave a concert of music and readings that covered everything that was wet ranging from rain, the sea and occasional tears.

The eclectic programme included songs in Zulu, Maori and even Latin as the acapella singers bounced to the rhythms of Africa and had a swinging time with hillbilly melodies from the US, encouraging the audience to join in the choruses.

Choir leader Lizzie Deuxberry’s informal yet dedicated style was just right for the occasion and the small spin-off groups added to the mixture with their own choice of songs all delivered in a relaxed at-mosphere.

A welcome guest for the evening was Ken Watkins, string player and singer supremo who gave a brilliant example of his expertise and offbeat comedy one-liners while a handful of cellists also contributed to an evening of pleasure that brought much-needed funds to a good cause.
