The one and only time I have seen Imelda May live was on my birthday a couple of years ago at the 02 and she was utterly brilliant so I was really looking forward to tonight’s show at Bournemouth’s Pavilion theatre.

Originating from Dublin and having been on the rockabilly circuit since 2003 the multi-talented musician has had a string of hits such as Johnny got a Boom Boom, Psycho and from the new album Tribal, Wild woman.

The support act for tonight’s show were The Caezars who’s vintage styled surf rock n roll totally nailed it with their aggressive 50s era guitaring and dark song writing, in fact I ended up buying their album after their set. They play Mr Kyps on the 14th Feb one gig I won’t be missing.

Imelda May took to the stage shortly after to a sold out audience looking stunning and kicking in with the title track of her new album, note perfect and oozing with confidence she followed it up with Wild Woman, the second single off the new album. Then going on to play a set of 24 songs featuring a good mix of old and new material.

By the end of the night a seated audience was brought to their feet. Imelda May ruled the venue with tonight’s performance and proves that she is the current queen of rockabilly.

For me tonight’s highlight was hearing the new songs and getting to see Zombie Girl performed live. A fantastic night in a great venue.
