I COULDN’T put it off any longer.

Idina Menzel’s CD of Christmas songs arrived on my desk a few weeks ago, and I wasn’t quite ready to sample the Wicked star and voice of Frozen’s festive warblings in October.

The Christmas Song, my favourite festive number, loses its subtlety and although Menzel’s version has a new arrangement, it’s a little gooey for my liking.

Baby It’s Cold Outside, a duet with Michael Buble, contains some fun improvised lines and I loved Menzel’s take on Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – simple and heartfelt.

All I Want For Christmas Is You, featuring Kenny G, is exactly how you think – a saxophone-packed cheese fest with some ‘creative’ scatting at the end.

Idina just about manages to redeem herself with her alluring What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? and her amusing message on the CD cover notes – ‘Mom, dad and sis.

‘Thanks for letting me quit Hebrew school and make a Christmas album.’
