FROM the soon-to-be released film starring Eddie Redmayne telling the story of astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and his relationship with his first wife Jane, this classical music score has been composed by Icelandic composer Johann Johansson.

The 27 tracks tell Hawkings’ story, from his formative years at Cambridge University in the ‘60s to meeting Jane just before he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

The stirring composition really gets going with ‘Chalkboard’, during which the mind’s eye sees Hawking scribbling out his theories.

As his body starts to fail him, Collapsing Inwards is a melancholic track reflecting Hawkings’ feeling of helplessness.

A Model of the Universe is a tear-jerking piece, leading into the stand-out piece The Theory of Everything.

This score is emotional and depicts beautifully the battle between Hawking the scientist and Hawking the man, with his love for Jane winning out.
