THINK feather boas, glamorous costumes, fire, champagne and thousands of sequins and you get An Evening of Burlesque at the Pavilion last night.

It was very showbiz and a little Broadway and West End as the host, Miss Terry, sang a range of tunes throughout the performance such as Getting Married In the Morning from My Fair Lady and Cabaret, as well as Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Amongst the characters were a four-part dance troupe, a gypsy fortune teller who could eat fire, super hula hooper and a lady in a giant champagne glass.

Plus, randomly, two men featured with one riding on a unicycle and even more bizarrely someone who claimed to read minds, who took to the stage after the interval.

What the show did highlight to me and the rest of the audience is that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Life is certainly not a one size fits all situation, as An Evening of Burlesque explored with curvy and skinny women of various ages taking part.

All equally gorgeous, talented and fun, with the perfect timing, poise and confidence to captivate the crowd and keep the audience in their seats until the final curtain.

Would I see the show again? Probably not. But not because the girls did anything wrong as they were fantastic performers. I just feel that in 2015, women dancing provocatively on a stage should not be entertainment for the public, but more something for people in their own homes, which I'm sure some will equate to me being a prude.

But more importantly, as a heterosexual female, I just didn't enjoy watching beautiful women slowly take their clothes off as the crowd wolf whistled. I'm afraid burlesque is just not my cup of tea. Or glass of champagne, in this case.
