DORCHESTER BIG BAND

Weymouth Bay Methodist Church

CURRENTLY celebrating ten years since its formation, the band members under the leadership of Geoff Miller have become regular favourites at Dorset venues where their big sound draws appreciative jazz and swing fans.

With a varied repertoire ranging from Gershwin to Mancini and Buddy Rich to Miles Davis and with the emphasis squarely upon the saxophone, the band welcomes new members at all times to add to its already impressive numbers.

Many of the local musicians – certainly too many to name - in the band stepped forward to play solo pieces in this lively concert where the high standard of performance was a tribute to the 30 players who filled the building with exciting sounds.

Rhythmic arrangements of swing favourites like Fascinating Rhythm and Four brought a new dimension to the evening and the band will undoubtedly earn new fans with its summer appearances at Dorchester’s Borough Gardens and at their monthly Colliton Club concerts.

The enthusiasm and dedication of Geoff Miller shines through every piece they play and his encouragement of the performers deserves public support. Budding musicians who are interested in joining the band can attend a rehearsal on Monday evenings at the Sunninghill Community Hall.
