IT was clear that many members of the audience knew what to expect, judging by the whopping and clapping at the start of the Banff Film Festival last night.

For this is the tour’s fifth visit to Poole, and is in town for two nights instead of just one following sold out shows last year.

The two and a half hour programme has been selected from around 370 films that were entered into the Banff Mountain Film Festival in Canada last November.

One of the largest and most prestigious festivals in the world, it features a collection of thought-provoking films, with subject matter ranging from remote landscapes and cultures to adrenaline-packed action sports.

This year’s tour was an exhilarating adventure through the big screen including extreme paragliding through the Alps, hard-core mountain biking on the Isle of Skye and a heart-warming adventure through the Arabian Peninsula.

But it wasn’t all boys’ own adventures this time.

Some of the stars of this year’s tour include a two-year-old dog and a 90-year-old fly fisherman.

There was also more of a focus on life, love and relationships. The overall message seemed to be that you don’t need to be an adrenaline junkie to have an adventure.

Exhilarating, and life affirming, the 2015 world tour is a must-see not just for mountain enthusiasts, but for anyone with a love of the outdoor life.
