BSO Strings - Pier Approach, Bournemouth
THE final in a series of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's 2015 Pier Approach free concerts was performed to a mixed audience of BSO regulars and holidaymakers last Friday. The BSO Strings concert was conducted by Frank Zielhorst, the BSO's Leverhulme Conductor in Association, on a scorching sunny Bournemouth afternoon.
Opening with Mozart's classic Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, pieces by Elgar, Puccini, Handel, Grieg and Bournemouth born Hubert Parry entertained. Highlights were 20th Century composer Peter Warlock's exquisite Capriol Suite and a return of last year's beautiful, Holst's St Paul's Suite.
The announcement that the BSO will return to Meyrick Park next year on the weekend of August 5-6 was very well received by the locals in the audience.
Tonight the BSO play the substantially larger venue of London's Royal Albert Hall for their performance at the BBC Proms.
