REVIEW OF WEYMOUTH LUNCHTIME CHAMBER CONCERT

Held on Wednesday 30th September 2015 in St. Mary’s Church Weymouth at 1pm.

Christopher Horner (Violin) and Duncan Honeybourne (Piano) are both professional musicians of high quality with huge enthusiasm and wide and varied experience.

Both have been highly praised in prestigious musical journals, played on radio and TV etc.

Together they are formidable and fitted with each other like the proverbial gloves.

The artistes began their recital with an utterly delightful duo in A major ly Franz Schubert (1797-1829, Lovely melodies (as always with Schubert, who wrote over 600 songs). And there was a foot-tapping, jolly, very fast Scherzo.

The sonata for violin and piano by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) followed.

This composer lived into the jazz age. His 2nd movement is a blues, and a very moving one.

Finally came the Suite populaire Espagnole by Manuel de Falla- splendidly passionate and dramatic, and showing off the considerable technical prowess of the two musicians, a fitting end to an excellent concert.
