As children's TV programmes go, Tree Fu Tom is a bit of a winnner - two Doctor Who actors in the cast, a theme tune that doesn't make your ears bleed and a nifty trick to get kids up off the sofa and moving around.

So it was always likely to be the case that, for the parents at least, Tree Fu Tom live was going to be a pale imitation. No Doctor Who actors, extra singing and a distinct lack of flying.

After about five minutes, my four year old whispered in my ear: "It's not really Tom and Twigs, Mummy, it's just people dressed up as them."

But once she'd established this, she seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show.

Yes, the story was weaker than you'd expect if you watch the show, with too many unnecessary songs that couldn't be heard because the microphone levels were all wrong. And yes, Tom sounded all wrong, but definitely looked the part, embodying the physicality of the character totally.

Stars of the show were the mischievous Mushas, if the shouts and screams were anything to go by. My daughter's final verdict? "It was better than the one on TV".

And since it's her opinion that counts, I guess you can't say fairer than that.
