The first week of November seems a little early for A Christmas Carol and I was expecting to see the classic Charles Dickens tale, but Box Clever's interpretation was inventive, comical, modern and interactive.

With a simplistic set, this was all about the performers and they enthusiastically embraced their roles.

My favourite character was Jacob Marley's spirit played by Charlyne Francis as the one and only Bob Marley including her treating us to "Don't Worry Be Happy".

I was thoroughly impressed with Sean Kearney's performance of Ebenezer Scrooge, especially his dramatic portrayal throughout the ghost of Christmas future section and his comedic transformation for the end.

All three actors proved to be incredibly talented; Charlyne Francis is comical and has a beautiful singing voice, Jessica Dennis could break your heart with her portrayal of Bob Cratchett and Ebenezer's past love and Sean Kearney embraced the layered and evolving character of Ebenezer Scrooge.

He also proved to be just as musically talented as his fellow players with his performance of the Christmas hit Happy Christmas (War is Over) for the finale.

My one criticism would be that Ebenezer Scrooge's realisation of his faults came far too early during his trip into the past.

His transition should be gradual; Scrooge fears what he sees, it upsets him and he pities himself, but it is not until his glimpse into the future and especially the fate of Tiny Tim that he realises his faults and need to change.
