WEYMOUTH LUNCHTIME CHAMBER CONCERT
St Mary's Church
Weymouth
"I'M afraid you are stuck with me today."
Those were the words of Duncan Honeybourne, who stepped in when the cellist who was due to perform cancelled at the last minute.
These were typically modest comments from Duncan. I've been listening to him play since he was 11.
He's a real genius of the piano, both as a soloist and as an accompanist.
It is hard to imagine a better performance from Duncan. There's no doubt that he feels the music as he plays it, he's completely absorbed in it.
He played numbers from six composers, with only two of them well known.
One was Elgar, the only piano work attributed to him, Concert Allegro, the other one was Henry Walford Davies, the other four were by Elisabeth Lutyens.
It was an exceptionally beautiful performance.
We also heard a jolly John Longmire piece called Regent Street and some work by Richard Francis.
"The audience was, as always, overwhelmed by this music and it was a thoroughly enjoyable concert."
*The next concert is at 1pm on Wednesday December 9, a celebration of Christmas with the Barn Choir, conducted by Richard Hall.
