The BIC may be one of the smaller arenas that they have played but Duran Duran bought a big big show to town on Wednesday night.

Opening the set with Paper Gods the title track from their latest album they immediately had the all seated venue on their feet where the majority of the crowd stayed for the rest of the evening.

Bournemouth Echo:

From brand new the band switched to 80's crowd pleasers Wild Boys, Hungry Like The Wolf and Bond theme A View To A Kill that just increased the levels of excitement in the crowd who were by now dancing and singing along to every word.

A few newer tracks from Paper Gods followed but were received nearly as well as the old hits and by now it was obvious that the band had pitched the set list with just the right amount of new and old material to please just about everyone.

Bournemouth Echo:

Add to this the on-stage graphics, light show, smoke and confetti cannons which were perfectly managed to enhance the show and you could see why Duran Duran have been around for over 35 years and are still selling out arenas and headlining festivals around the world.

The main set ended with Girls On Film but with two of their biggest hits missing they were always going to come back at least once.

Bournemouth Echo:

Before the first song of the encore Simon Le Bon explained that Duran Duran had played with Eagles of Death Metal just two weeks before the Bataclan attack. The EoDM have released a cover version of Save A Prayer and all of the profit including the Duran Duran royalties will be put toward promoting tolerance via music.

Bournemouth Echo:

As sobering as this was the evening ended on a high note with Save A Prayer and Rio.

The band promised a big crowd-pleasing show and as my friend Charlie (a long time Duran fan) said. “They didn’t disappoint”!
