THE sexy and sassy multi-award winning phenomenon that is Chicago blew into Southampton last night leaving its audience speechless.
Powerful from the outset, this production has enough Razzle Dazzle to keep the audience spellbound to the final second.
It’s a tale of murder, corruption, adultery and greed that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Hayley Tamaddon may have been cute and smiley when she won the nation’s hearts as winner of Dancing on Ice.
But she’s a different kettle of fish as the ruthless Roxie Hart, nightclub singer and murderess extraordinaire.
Eastenders and West End star John Partridge is brilliant as the smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn and, keeping them all in order as Matron Mama Morton is X Factor winner Sam Bailey, proving her previous job as a prison warden was the perfect work experience for her new and more exciting career.
She may not be a household name but you won’t be able to take your eyes off Sophie Carmen-Jones, whose top-notch voice and incredible dance moves make for a stunning performance as Velma Kelly.
This musical, set in the 1920s, is full of strong and dramatic songs with opening number All That Jazz probably the best known.
But in last night’s show Cell Block Tango had the edge for me.
The Mayflower Theatre has landed some incredible shows recently and you’d be mad to miss this latest triumph.
