There are a number of reasons why I love gigs like this, firstly with four bands playing thirty minutes or so each you get to hear all of the really popular stuff covering the hits that made us love them in the first place.

Secondly they are all better musicians that have learnt their instruments and stage craft and seem to be enjoying themselves a lot more, a fact that transfer's to the audience.

The evening started with Nick Heyward who I always thought was tagged with that light poppy label when he also produced some really good songs and had a much better voice than many gave him credit for.

Favorite Shirt, Take That Situation, Love Plus One, Blue Hat For A Blue Day and of course Fantastic Day all took the crowd back to a time when we were all a lot younger and had a lot less to worry about.

Next up was Midge Ure who in the 80's was a complete contrast to Nick with the synth heavy, serious faced Ultravox. Again we got the hits including Dancing With Tears In My Eyes and Vienna along with Fade To Grey made popular by Visage but written by Midge and a cover of Bowies Starman.

After a short break Curiosity Killed The Cat immediately got the crowd to their feet singing and dancing along to Misfit, a cover of Hang On In There Baby and Name and Number. The years may have passed but Ben still has all of the dance moves ending the set up off the stage and in the crowd singing Back Down.

Having seen Big Country supporting The Jam first time round and then again on the main stage at the Isle of Wight festival a couple of years ago I was intrigued to see them for a third time with yet another lead singer and a new bass player.

I'm glad to tell you that they sound just as good now as they did then. My favorite of the night they bought the show to a close with the big Scottish rock songs that everyone loved then and still loves now. What a great night.
