It must be a great feeling to play a headline gig in your local venue and Sunset Sons lead singer Rory Williams was obviously pretty pleased to be doing just that.

To have left to travel to Europe to surf, met some like-minded travellers, formed a band, play Glastonbury and festivals all over Europe in the space of 24 months must have been a pretty hectic experience.

Half the crowd seemed to be family or friends tonight and the gig was all the better for it.

Signed partially on the strength of their live performances tonight’s show was loud and fast and was a big hit with the crowd.

With their first album ‘Very Rarely Say Die’ only being released last week the set was always going to rely heavily on tracks from that piece of work.

The band delivered their indie/rock songs with only the occasional interaction with the crowd and most of that was a hello to people recognised from days gone by.

The downstairs at the O2 was packed which was great to see especially as every single person there seemed to be having a great time.

On at half nine the main set lasted a short sharp 55 minutes but in no time at all Rory returned for a single song solo slot before the rest of the band joined him for another couple.

The evening ended much too soon but I am sure they will be back, especially if their fan base keeps growing at the rate it has over the last couple of years.

Pretty short but definitely worth the trip.
