NOSTALGIA party extravaganza That’ll Be The Day has pulled into Bournemouth for its 20th consecutive summer season as it celebrates a staggering 30 years on the road - and it’s a sure-fire winner!

If for one moment we feared this enduring, record-breaking musical variety show was in danger of running out of steam we could not have been more wrong.

This latest version of the show is the best I can remember in my 20 years of watching it.

It has always been a slick, fast-moving almost giddying fun-fuelled ride through the music of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, combining an intoxicating mix of musical magic, rib-tickling comedy and nostalgia.

The shows founder/ director and cast member Trevor Payne re-writes the show every year and this landmark show offers a new mix of completely live and incredibly accurate hit songs – combined with hilarious comedy sketches.

Inevitably it kicks off with the 1950’s reflecting the music and tone of an era that changed the course of music history and youth culture forever.

The comedy is ‘naughty but nice’ almost saucy seaside post card humour.

Trevor and Gary Anderson - who have been working together for 35 years, share the most wonderful chemistry, camaraderie and comic timing and their send up of Bill and Ben ( The Flower Pot Men) is hilarious.

Other segments include a flashback to TV classic Val Parnell’s Sunday Night at the London Palladium featuring Bruce Forsyth, The Dave Clark 5, Diana Ross, Lulu and the Beatles, followed by a James Bond tribute and Blues Brothers segment. Neil Diamond, Elvis, Susie Quatro and even Sir Rod Stewart kept the night rocking.

And as ever Trevor was brilliant as Sir Cliff and utterly hilarious as Mick Jagger.

Many fans of TBTD have literally seen it hundreds of times or at least return year after year.

One such fan is ‘Ivy’ who sat on the front row laughing, singing and clapping along as she celebrated her 104th birthday.

The show’s multi-talented cast is as ever boosted by the excellent young dancers from Bournemouth’s Carrington Hollywood Academy of Dance.

n That’ll Be The Day runs at the Pavilion theatre until September 17.
