THOUSANDS of people packed out the main room in the BIC for Bastille's electrifying gig in Bournemouth.

On the first date of their UK tour to promote their latest album, Wild World, the boys showed as much passion and enthusiasm for their music as they have on the three previous occasions that I have seen them at festivals and in Bournemouth.

Main singer, Dan Smith, tells the audience in the Solent Hall that this is their first tour since 2014 and repeatedly thanked them for waiting for a show that I'm sure many would agree did not disappoint.

A massive high point was when Dan, followed closely behind by security, made his way through the crowd as he sang and high-fived people who could only look on in awe as a member of the band they came to watch on stage stood just feet away.

He then jumped onto some boxes behind the sound decks, which gave the standing crowd at the back an unexpected ring-side seat.

Later on, during the encore, Dan and a guitarist appeared on the balcony on a stairway, where the seated fans got a close-up view of him as he sang.

Dan literally jumped around the stage throughout the set and it just added to the beat of the music, which came from trumpets, a violin and cello, as well as electric guitars and snare drums.

Songs included the beautiful and haunting track, Oblivion, as well as Pompeii, Of The Night, and Laura Palmer from first album, Bad Blood.

New music included An Act of Kindness, Four Walls, Send Them Off, which is a personal favourite, and Lethargy, which after Friday night's gig, is now a new favourite.

Support for the evening came from Childcare, and Rationale, the latter of which had such a powerful and emotive voice.

Both support acts were invited onto the stage for the final tune performed by Bastille to join in with singing and heating the drums.

Good Grief, these boys have found a wining formula for making beautiful music and having heaps of fun alongside their fans along the way.
