IT'S a magical tale that's known the world over but don't make the mistake of turning up at the Mayflower thinking you know exactly what you're going to see.

We've all enjoyed the Disney film and the endless pantomime versions of Cinderella but this production by the Birmingham Royal Ballet elevates the story to a whole new level.

The audience was captivated as the immensely-talented company brought grace and class to everyone's favourite happy-ever-after story.

A dancing frog, mice and lizards were enchanting and the stunning set provided a beautiful backdrop to the story which proves dream really can come true.

These dancers are some of the best in the business and their incredible skill is a treat to watch.

Add to that the top-notch musicianship and the bright and stylish costumes and you've got a real feast for the eyes and ears.

David Bintley's world-renowned choreography had the audience gripped and you could have heard a pin drop despite the impressively-large first night audience.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet are a class act and securing a four-night run is a real coup for Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

And it's a treat to see local talent, including Feargus Campbell from the New Forest and Laura Purkiss from Southampton, in such a spectacular production.

The company has a long and proud history, performing as the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet from 1931 until a change of base and name in 1990.

And they are keen to encourage young dancers, staging Birmingham Royal Ballet First Steps on Friday afternoon for little ones between the ages of three and seven.

The grown-up version is a must-see spectacle and it seems unlikely the little stars of the future will leave disappointed on Friday. Grab tickets for both while you can.
