Paul Carrack is to my mind one of the greatest singer songwriters this country has ever produced. His songs have provided hits for Ace, The Eagles and many others while his soulful voice is equally at home in a small club or in an arena such as the BIC where he appear tonight.

The last few times I have seen him in Bournemouth he has played the smaller Pavilion Theatre so it was great to see a good sized crowd in the much larger Windsor Hall, perhaps more people are finally catching on to the immense talent of the man and his six piece band of excellent musicians.

The first part of the show consisted of a varied set consisting of songs from his extensive back catalogue including crowd favorite Another Cup of Coffee.

A brief four song acoustic slot provides one of my favorite moments in the shape of an excellent version of Jackie Dee Shannon’s' Every Time You Walk In The Room before it was back to the full band for the rest of the show.

It was straight into Tempted from his time in Squeeze, followed by You Don't Know Me, Bet Your Life and the song he co-wrote with The Eagles, Love Will Keep Us Alive dedicated to the late Glen Fry.

Another crowd favorite Living Years followed by How Long had the crowd on their feet dancing along to close the show on another high note.

After a short break they were back with Over My Shoulder and then back for a second time for a show-stopping version of Marvin Gaye’s What's Going On.

Part of what makes a great live show is all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, a fact that is not lost on Paul who makes sure he publicly thanks the crew who put on the show every night.

The lights and sound were a perfect compliment to the band on stage and together they delivered a near perfect evening of soul.
