I’M pretty sure Anton du Beke was born wearing a top hat and tails – so at home does he look in the sophisticated get-up.
The Strictly favourite and his professional partner Erin Boag, also a veteran of the TV dance show, were back on stage at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre for this year’s Swing Time tour.
Doing what they do best, the pair glided through slick swing numbers accompanied by the fantastic London Concert Orchestra and Strictly singer Lance Ellington.
Having done a number of these tours over the last few years, the songs are getting a little less familiar, but certainly no less enjoyable.
Those I did recognise included Moondance; Putting On My Top Hat; Hello Dolly and I Got Rhythm – as well as a rather random, but brilliantly choreographed, routine to the Austin Powers sixties theme music!
There was a little singing thrown in – the pair don’t have bad voices, but I rather wish they would stick to dancing – as well as the question and answer section.
The pair gamely talked about their favourite songs, gave dance tips to a brave couple who were hauled up onto the stage, and even discussed how many roast potatoes they can eat, while Anton talked about what he would do if given the head judge role following Len Goodman’s departure, as well as the imminent arrival of his twins.
Then it was back to the dancing for the spectacular finale of an evening which just oozed style and sophistication.
