BEING able to silence a crowd with just your voice and a guitar is something most singers’ dream of but only few can say they have achieved.

Scottish superstar Amy Macdonald is one of those artists.

And on Sunday night an almost sold-out crowd at the Bournemouth Pavilion watched with total admiration as Macdonald belted out some of the slower numbers from her Under Starts tour.

Never Too Late, accompanied only by a piano, and Prepare To Fall, with a guitar, were two of the songs which really showcased the range of her amazing voice.

But she wasn’t the only singer of the night to impress with their vocals.

English singer-songwriter and musician Newton Faulkner delighted the audience as Macdonald’s incredible warm up act.

As he strolled on stage with his dreadlocks tied up in a bun, a cup-of-tea and no shoes, it was uncertain how he would go down with the audience.

But the moment he started to sing they seemed completely won over by his immense vocal range.

He performed alone but with the force of an entire band. He employed his voice, hands, and feet to deliver a succession of slick numbers such as Dream Catch Me and Clouds – using one foot to control the drum rhythm, his hands moved from plucking the strings to tapping the body of the guitar.

With his engaging banter and easy going manner he finished his set with a version of Bohemian Rhapsody which almost brought down the house.

He sang and played every part of the jam packed number wowing the audience not just with his impressive musical skill but also a magnificent light show.

It really set the stage for a great show – and that is exactly what Macdonald and her five-man band delivered.

And while the ballads were vocally impressive Macdonald was also able to get the party started with her more upbeat numbers Dream On, Under Stars and Automatic.

Slow It Down got everyone singing along despite a bit of hesitation to begin with, and eventually the whole venue roared out tunes with delight.

The 29-year-old singer also encouraged the crowd to get up and dance – and at one point even chastised security for asking people to sit down.

Eventually everyone was on their feet which was where they remained for the rest of the night clapping along and swaying to all their favourite hits.

The encore treated crowds to new song Down By The Water which has more of a folksy feel before she finished with Let's Start A Band.

All in all, it was an absolutely brilliant way to spend a Sunday night.
