HALLELUJAH! The sassy and funky Sister Act is back on the road, spreading the love around and drawing the crowds to Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre.

The nuns are raising their voices to the rooftops in this hilarious and dazzling new production of the West End and Broadway smash hit musical.

Alexandra Burke excels as Deloris Van Cartier, disguised as a nun and hidden in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder.

Mother Superior has her doubts as to whether Deloris will ever become a true sister, but as Deloris helps the convent’s dismal choir transform into disco divas, she discovers she has more in common with them than she ever thought possible.

Alexandra Burke may have shot to fame in X Factor but she looks like she’s been on the stage all her life and can certainly belt it out with the best of them.

This is a great cast with some stunning performances from smooth-voiced Curtis (Aaron Lee Lambert) and Mother Superior (Karen Mann).

There’s something childishly funny about a straight-laced nun who staggers around the stage drunk before launching into some cheeky disco numbers.

And how such a huge voice comes out of little Sister Mary Robert (Alice Stokoe) I’ll never know.

Sister Act is a fine example of actor musicianship with many of the cast able to play the saxophone, trumpet or percussion as well as they can sing and act.

This is the ultimate feel-good night out with spectacular dance routines and Motown inspired songs which had the near sell-out audience dancing in the aisles.

Giant glitter balls and a near ticker-tape parade at the end all add to the atmosphere.

There was a richly-deserved standing ovation, cheers and a few tears at the end of this very special show.

It came as no surprise to learn that the unforgiving Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood is the Director and Choreographer.

He has put his stamp on this production, taking it even more over-the-top than it was before.

It's in town until June 17. Don't miss it - it's Fab-u-lous.
