JOE PASQUALE

Weymouth Pavilion

THIS one-man production is entitled the Devil in Disguise, an odd title for a man whose name means Easter in Italian but that’s Joe for you, a complicated character with a lot going on under his comedy facade.

Joe’s usual trademark for his live stand-up comedy appearances is a stage full of accessories ranging from a miniature drum kit to a rainbow, a guinea pig and a strait jacket, all of which help to keep the action going in his quick-fire routines as he churns out his stories with amazing skill, hardly stopping for breath except to poke fun at himself.

With many of his jokes concentrating on body parts, the humour is decidedly adult at times but he somehow manages to make them silly rather than sexy and he gets members of the audience to come onstage to join in the fun.

“I’m 55 years old and I do this for a living” he chortles as he blows up a balloon and noisily lets the air out, adding that he is currently studying for a science degree which prompts him to demonstrate gravity by whirling a glass of water through the air, a pretty impressive trick which only Joe would attempt.

Currently on a punishing national tour that takes him to 26 venues in just over a month, his unique way of looking at the world makes him a sure-fire winner at everything he does, but a devil in disguise? Definitely not.
