DIG for victory and learn how to darn a sock at Nothe Fort’s Second World War Homefront Weekend this weekend.

The Bomb Disposal Squad will be giving displays on the various types of devices used during World War II and will, hopefully, be de-fusing the bomb.

The Northamptonshire Home Guard will be mounting a display, doing rifle drill and marching practice. Join in and see if you are fit enough to enrol in “Dad’s army”. Also try your hand at sending messages in Morse at the Weymouth Radio stand, who will also be demonstrating wartime communications equipment.

The weekend runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm both days. Entry is £5 for adults, £3 for children and under fives go free. See nothefort.org.uk l THE Spirit of Portland starts tomorrow with events and displays across the island until August 2.

A Celebration of the Sea takes place at Chesil Cove tomorrow from 11am to 4pm.

It features craft stalls, exhibitions, music and food.

Go fly a kite on Sunday at Portland Bill from 10am to 4pm.

There is also a family activity day to enjoy at the Chesil Beach Centre on Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Travel from the Dairy House in Chaldon Herring, near Dorchester, on a route from the village green, over farm tracks and onto the Jurassic Coast.

The rides last around an hour and are rounded off with a cream tea in a village garden. They take place between 2pm and 5pm tomorrow and Sunday.

They cost £5 for adults, £3 for under 18s and under eights go free.
