THE Dorset Arts and Crafts Association has reached the big 100.

It is holding its 100th exhibition from August 1 to 5 at the Purbeck School in Wareham.

The association was formed in 1907 and has held annual exhibitions every year since then except for between 1940 and 1947 and in 1960.

It is thought the association is the last remaining county arts and crafts association from the many that were started in the very early 20th century It has members from all over Dorset and the exhibition will include a mixture of older style craftsmanship, like lace, spinning, weaving and woodwork, along with fine art pictures and photography and will even have a special section dedicated to recycling. Approximately 750 craft items, entered by more than 225 people will be on display, most having been entered for judging and the awards of trophies and certificates. Special guest exhibitions, children’s have-a-go activities, craft stalls and catering make this one of Dorset’s biggest exhibitions.

There will be a variety of craft stalls, 22 different craft sections, and some of the members of the association will be demonstrating their skills. A Challenge Cup will be awarded for the best presented stall.

A large collection of photos will be on display and some will be available to buy. Visitors can vote for their favourite photograph and painting. There will also be a stall selling a range of plants and books.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm daily from August 1 to 4. On August 5 it is open from 10am to 4pm.

Admission is free for members of the association, £5 for adults, £4 for seniors, £2 for children aged six to 16 and £10 for families.
