EastEnders actress Kellie Bright has revealed her on-screen husband Danny Dyer was more concerned and “jealous” about her signing up for Strictly Come Dancing than her husband Paul Stocker.

“I’ve suffered more about that from Danny than I have from my real husband,” she explained, adding: “Danny is terrified for me. He’s very supportive, incredibly supportive – and a little bit jealous.”

The two play much-loved couple Mick and Linda Carter on the BBC soap.

Kellie added she and her husband were “not at all” worried about the “Curse of Strictly”, which famously sees marriages and relationships ruined when celebrities fall for their professional dance partners. “I have the most generous, supportive husband in the world,” she said.

EastEnders has proved a rich source of contestants for Strictly over the years – including Kara Tointon, June Brown and Jake Wood.

“The thing for me is that everyone who’s done it has enjoyed it. Even if they’ve said ‘Oh my God it’s such hard work’,” the 39-year-old said.

“I watched Jake last year literally unravel before my eyes, because he was so tired. But everyone has said that it has been one of the best experiences of my life.”

Looking at her own busy filming schedule, she said: “I’m going to take each day as it comes, it’s the only thing I can do. And I sort of thrive off being busy. I just don’t want to fall over.”

The actress has a three-year-old son, but he is unimpressed by seeing his mother on the TV, Kellie admitted. “He might be a little bit more taken with watching mummy dancing around – but I just can’t compare to the Transformers or Batman.”

Strictly Come Dancing will air on BBC One on Saturday at 7.15pm.
