The new series of The X Factor will be accompanied by new-look spin-off show The Xtra Factor Live, and its hosts Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson have admitted they are keen to put head judge Simon Cowell “in his place”.

Formerly The Xtra Factor, this year’s companion programme – which airs on ITV2 after each episode – will be live for the first time.

X Factor alumnus and TV presenter Rylan and BBC Radio 1 DJ Matt are taking over the reins from last year’s presenters Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom for the revitalised show.

The duo will be joined in the studio by contestants who have appeared on the preceding main show, as well as a panel of celebrity guests to share their thoughts along with the audience and viewers at home via social media.

As in the previous version of the show, the hosts will have a chance to speak to the judges after the main programme, and they are excited to be able to probe the X Factor boss.

Rylan said: “We will definitely shout [Simon] down and put him in his place if we want to. We’ll take on Simon!”

Matt added: “I have it with every authority figure I come across in my life, my gut instinct is to take the mickey out of them. I can’t fight that, so that’s what I have been doing with Simon.

“I’ve got so many questions about his life, which I am fascinated by. Whenever we get a few spare minutes I’m always like: ‘Quickly, tell me about your ridiculous life!’ It’s so fascinating.”

He added that Simon is his “favourite judge to go and bother”.

Capital Radio DJ Roman Kemp will also be part of the team, acting as The Xtra Factor Live’s digital reporter, bringing viewers the social media news and reaction to the auditions.
