DORCHESTER Choral Society will perform Bach’s B minor Mass at St. Mary's Church, Edward Road, Dorchester on Saturday, March 23 at 7.30pm.
The work demands exacting standards from chamber orchestra, choir and vocal soloists alike, who for this performance are soprano Wendy Nieper, Deborah Miles-Johnson, tenor Brian Parsons and Robert Evans.
Society spokesman Anthony Gannon said: “The orchestra shares the honours with the vocalists, the two oboes d’amore lilting, weaving around the Bass in Et in Spiritum Sanctum and the stirringly triumphal trumpets in Et Expecto Resurrectionem as two instances. And this is a Mass!”
He added: “Described as ‘the greatest piece of music of all times and of all people’ this work was refined over decades of his life.”
Tickets cost £15 reserved central aisle, £12 unreserved side aisle and are available from Harmony Music, 3-4 Forum Centre, Trinity Street, Dorchester or by post from DCS Box Office, 1 Pitcote Lane, Poundbury DT1 3GH including a cheque and SAE.
