A WONDERFUL tribute to one of America’s greatest musical duos comes to Dorset for two performances this week.

Simon and Garfunkel – Through the Years, featuring Dan Haynes and Pete Richards, brings to life the unmistakable sounds of the duo.

The multi-media show, which is laden with hits including Homeward Bound, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs Robinson and Scarborough Fair, also features narration written by Victoria Kingston, the author of Simon and Garfunkel – The Definitive Biography, and showcases their most memorable songs.

When creating the show Dan and Pete – who perform under the name Bookends after the iconic Simon and Garfunkel album – realised that dressing up in wigs and putting on fake accents would not suit the slick and sophisticated style of Simon and Garfunkel.

“We thought that this type of tribute would make a mockery of them,” explained Pete.

“We needed to create something classier with more to offer than a standard tribute act.”

The show features documentary style videos which include footage of Simon and Garfunkel themselves, giving their personal accounts of their rise to fame, as well as personal experiences of Dan and Pete, who once flew to New York to see Simon and Garfunkel live and returned to the announcement of a UK tour.

It was when researching for the show that Dan came across Victoria Kingston’s book. They contacted her and she was so impressed with Dan and Pete’s recreation of the sound of the American duo that she agreed to her book being used for the narration in the show.

The result is a spellbinding experience with accurate live performances of the songs that influenced a generation.

Dan and Pete perform with just a single guitar and two voices, which blend perfectly to recreate the perfect timing and diction that the duo were famous for.

Bookends will be performing at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis March 20 at 8.30pm and Dorchester Arts Centre on March 21 at 7.30pm.
