GET ready to walk the plank at a pirate-themed family extravaganza in Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth on Sunday.

The Friends of Lodmoor Country Park are hosting the third Lodmoor Ahoy event from 1pm to 3.30pm.

There will be a host of events and activities in the park on the fun day, which is aimed at children aged between three and 12.

A newly installed bird’s nest swing for the children’s play area will also be celebrated.

Friends of Lodmoor Country committee member Dinah Ellis said: “This free family fun afternoon will offer children accompanied by adults a choice of simple activities designed to get them out around the park and enjoying themselves in the open air.

“The activities are designed to encourage children to use their senses to help them explore and discover the natural features of Lodmoor Country Park while meeting the people who work there.”

Specially priced Cresta Run slide tokens have been donated by Martin Panrucker of the Leisure Ranch for every child taking part, along with a £20 voucher as a prize for the free raffle.

Tokens and raffle tickets will be in the goody bags for participants. He is also generously donating a third of every redeemed token’s worth to The Friends of Lodmoor Country Park.

The bright pink ‘Olympic Ambassador’ gazebo and another kindly loaned by Matt Lester of Pier Plaster & Build will be set up beside the wooden galleon. Members of the Friends will be on hand to guide everyone through the activities.

The Easter Bunny will have left some chocolate treats to reward children playing a Hunt the Bunny game.

This year there will also be a print-making contest with the best ones posted on Facebook and prizes in the free raffle.

The Friends of Lodmoor Country Park was formed in 2008 to help boost the area and draw more families to use it.

The volunteers have held many events and have worked with the council to improve the park and bolster facilities.

This year the RSPB will be setting up their stall with wildlife activities and information for all, a follow-up from their successful visit to last year’s ‘Celebrate Your Space!’ event.
