WEDNESDAY’S Weymouth lunchtime chamber concert was a rare musical treat.

The three players Miles Hewitt (horn), Sarah Drury (violin) and Duncan Honeybourne (piano) – all of star quality, formed an unusual combination which worked very well.

The concert opened with a lively and inventive trio by the English composer Lennox Berkely (1903-1989), which included an especially striking theme and variation.

The second work was a deliciously romantic trio by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) written just after his mother’s death.

Beautifully played, it was not always slow and sad; it also contained a playful scherzo and a robust final movement with a dramatic climax.

The next Weymouth lunchtime chamber concert will be on May 7 from 1pm to 2pm at St Mary’s Church – The Duncan Honeybourne annual memorial concert for his father Eric.

The profits will go to Weymouth day hospital where Eric spent his last years. It will include Schumann’s Carnival and other favourite works by Eric.
