MEMBERS of Dorset Youth Theatre junior and intermediate groups will perform in a double bill starting at 7pm today and tomorrow at Dorchester Corn Exchange.

Too Many Apples by Robert Smith is a mini musical morality play set in modern times and is about a young girl from a wealthy family who meets and befriends a young homeless boy on the streets of a big city.

There are many problems facing both children and the play deals with many modern issues – such as homelessness, troublesome youth, the difficulties of parenting, community policing and law and order.

Despite this, it is a moving and, at times, very funny play which uses songs and a ‘chorus’ to describe the plot and comment on the characters’ actions.

After the interval, the intermediates will perform Quest of a Play by Geraldine O’Neill – a play within a play ironically set in a youth theatre!

Jo Simons, director of Dorchester Youth Theatre, said: “It has been magical seeing these young performers grow in confidence over the last couple of years. “As a director it is so exciting to see them put into practice what they have learned.

“They have shown commitment and professionalism in rehearsals and we can’t wait to share the finished results.”

Tickets are available on the door prior to performances.

Performances start at 7pm and the doors and bar open at 6.30pm.

Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for under 18s.
