A ROSE Garden party is coming into bloom once again next month.

St Edmund’s Church is holding its flagship fundraiser The Rose Garden Party on Saturday, July 12 from 1pm.

The special guest will be Poppy Butcher, a veterans’ ambassador for Weymouth.

The day is for remembering those who served in the forces during the First World War and those involved in the D-Day landings 70 years ago.

People are encouraged to come dressed in themed clothing.

Rod Adams, chairman of the organising committee, said: “This year is going to be bigger than ever. Having Poppy as our special guest seemed like the right thing to do as this is the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

“Each year we try and build on the success of the previous year’s event.

“We try and make sure there’s something for all the family.

“It’s a way of getting all the local community together and to raise money for the church.”

Along with all the usual top quality stalls there are alpacas returning this year.

New to the event this year is Dorchester Judo Club, Wessex Wings Honda Goldwings, a barbecue, jewellery, a grand draw, a children’s obstacle course, face painting and much more.

There will also be an exhibition of wartime memorabilia in the church.

If anyone has anything they would like to contribute to the exhibition, contact Rod on 01305 785811 or 07840 326866 or email rod62@hotmail.co.uk
