The autumn season at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis gets underway on 4 September with the return of Concerts in the West and their classical music evenings, this time blending the sounds of violin and harpsichord, which will include pieces from Bach to Handel.

Director of Sounds Baroque, Julian Perkins, has appeared in major concert venues including New York’s Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House and London’s Wigmore Hall; also performing concertos with leading groups including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The Sixteen.

Joining Perkins is Jane Gordon, a highly versatile violinist working as a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster with the major Baroque orchestras throughout the UK and Europe. The performance starts from 7:30pm.

Further details can be found at marinetheatre.com n Michael Chance, Britain’s famous leading counter-tenor, is returning to sing in Mapperton’s All Saints Church at 7pm on 25 October.

He will be accompanied by forte pianist Maggie Cole, who has also performed at Mapperton before.

Their programme of Schubert and Dowland promises to be special since it will be performed on a 1795 forte piano, the musicians judging that the piano’s tone quality is ideal for both composers.
