JOANNA Davis speaks to Antiques Roadshow stalwart Eric Knowles, who is bringing his What’s It Worth show to Weymouth Pavilion tomorrow

THOSE with treasures in the attic will be flocking to Weymouth Pavilion tomorrow night.

Eric Knowles, taking a break from filming the Antiques Roadshow in Liverpool, tells me what people can expect.

“The audience are asked to bring along items for on stage discussion. We then take 25 items and show them on the screen for a detailed view and appreciation.

“The second part of the show involves me talking about my favourite subject – me!

“I talk about my career and it’s full of interesting stuff and interesting anecdotes.

“I tell everybody it’s a night out for them and for me it’s therapy.

“It’s light-hearted and it seems to work.”

An expert on the Antiques Roadshow for 34 years, Lancashire-born Eric also been doing the What’s It Worth show for 10 years.

He said: “The Antiques Roadshow is quintessentially British, it’s a gentle show and it’s a learning curve.

“It’s a flagship programme for the BBC and I think it will go on and on.”

Eric, who lives in Buckinghamshire, is no stranger to Dorset.

“I’ve spent time in Weymouth, there’s the lovely beach, there’s the lovely seafood and the Jurassic Coast.

“And then just up the road you’ve got the Thomas Hardy country. Far From the Madding Crowd is one of my favourite films. Dorchester, of course, is a lovely part of Roman Britain.”

“And there’s Lyme Regis – which is known for that scene in the French Lieutenant’s Woman.”

Although Eric has numerous television commitments, he thrives being on the stage, he says.

“I love the fact that there’s no stopping and starting with the filming.

“My grandmother was on the stage – she was in amateur dramatics, so maybe that’s where I got it from.”

l What’s It Worth with Eric Knowles is at Weymouth Pavilion at 7.30pm.

Anyone who would like to bring their heirlooms and treasures along for possible inclusion in the show, should take them along to the Ocean Room of Weymouth Pavilion at 6pm.

Items chosen will be discussed during the show and valued.
